How to Maintain Your Exterior Paint Job: Tips from Riverside, IL's Trusted Painting Company

Maintaining your home’s exterior paint job can be a challenge, especially with the varied weather conditions Riverside, IL experiences. To help you keep your home looking fresh and vibrant for as long as possible, the exterior house painters at Metanoia Construction Inc have put together a list of essential tips. With these guidelines, you can ensure your home’s exterior paint remains in excellent condition for years to come.

Regular Cleaning

One of the simplest yet most effective ways to maintain your home’s paint job is through regular cleaning. Dirt, dust, and mildew can accumulate on your exterior walls, dulling the paint’s appearance. Professional painting companies recommend washing your home’s exterior at least once a year using a mild detergent and a garden hose. For stubborn stains, consider using a soft-bristle brush.

Promptly Address Repairs

Exterior paint does more than just add to the curb appeal of your home; it also protects it from the elements. If you notice any peeling, cracking, or bubbling paint, promptly addressing them is essential. These imperfections can allow moisture to seep into the wood, leading to rot and other structural problems. Contact a painting service like Metanoia Construction Inc to handle any necessary repairs. Professional exterior paint contractors in Cook County can provide expert solutions to keep your home in top shape.

Apply a Fresh Coat of Paint

Even with the best care, your home’s exterior paint will eventually need to be repainted. Experts suggest that you repaint your home every 5-10 years, depending on the quality of the previous paint job and the weather conditions. Hiring expert exterior house painters, like Metanoia Construction Inc, will ensure that the job is done properly, with high-quality materials and advanced techniques.

Protect Against UV Damage

The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays are harsh and can cause significant damage to exterior paint, such as fading and discoloration. To reduce the risk of damage, consider applying a UV-resistant coating or choosing paint that contains UV inhibitors. Professional home painters in Cook County can advise you on the best options to protect your home’s exterior.

Seasonal Inspections

Conducting seasonal inspections of your home’s exterior can help you detect and correct any issues early on. Look for signs of wear and tear, such as chipping paint, mold growth, and water damage. For thorough inspections and maintenance services, rely on the help of expert exterior house painters like Metanoia Construction Inc.

Have a question?

Riverside is arguably the first planned suburb (as opposed to a stand-alone community) in the United States, designed in 1869 by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted. The village was incorporated in 1875. The Riverside Landscape Architecture District, an area bounded by 26th Street, Harlem and Ogden avenues, the Des Plaines River, and Golf Road, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970. In 1863 the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad was built heading southwest from downtown Chicago to Quincy, Illinois, passing through what is now the Near West Suburban area of Chicago in a western-southwestern direction. This new access to transportation and commerce brought about a significant housing and construction boom in what was once farmland far from the bustle of the city of Chicago.

In 1868, an eastern businessman named Emery E. Childs formed the Riverside Improvement Company, and purchased a 1,600-acre (6.5 km2) tract of property along the Des Plaines River and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad line. The site was highly desirable due to its natural oak-hickory forest and its proximity to Chicago. The company commissioned well-known landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and his partner, Calvert Vaux, to design a rural bedroom community. The town’s plan, which was completed in 1869, called for curvilinear streets, following the land’s contours and the winding Des Plaines River. The plan also accorded for a central village square, located at the main railroad station, and a Grand Park system that uses several large parks as a foundation, with 41 smaller triangular parks and plazas located at intersections throughout town to provide for additional green spaces.

The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and the financial Panic of 1873 brought about the demise of the improvement company, bringing new construction nearly to a halt for some time. A village government was established in September 1875, and Olmsted’s original development plan remained in force. Building resumed in the following years, with the opening of the Riverside Golf Club in 1893, the striking Chateauesque Riverside Township Hall in 1895, and the Burlington line train station in 1901. Many homes and estates were designed by architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Daniel Burnham, Louis Sullivan, William Le Baron Jenney, Joseph Lyman Silsbee, Frederick Clarke Withers, and Calvert Vaux at the time as well.
